The Industrial PhD Programme (IPP) is a joint partnership between Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), TUM Asia, and selected sponsoring companies. It aims to develop a pool of graduates with critical R&D skill-sets for roles in the industry, through providing them with training in a corporate R&D environment.
The Industrial PhD Programme (IPP) is a grant provided by Economic Development Board Singapore to companies to develop a pool of postgraduate manpower with critical R&D skillsets for roles in the respective industries.
TUM Asia is one of the academic partners onboard the programme and will work with the approved companies for IPP.
Eligibility Criteria (for selection)
- Applicants must be Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents
- Applicants must also be Master degrees graduates from recognized universities
Training
- To obtain a post-doctorate degree within 4 years.
- Company will provide the project (supported by TUM Asia), and will help supervise students.
- Trainee will have to spend a minimum of 50% of his or her time on this company project within the company’s facility.
Bond
Under the IPP scheme, although EDB does not stipulate a bond on the trainee, companies are free to negotiate with the trainees and stipulate their own bond if both parties are agreeable.
What shortlisted candidates can expect
Salary support provided by EDB, up to SGD 3,300* per month.
*CPF contribution will be computed separately, based on the salary given.
However, the actual salary may be higher/lower than SGD 3,300, and this is up to the company to negotiate with the trainee. All other costs related to the IPP project and IPP trainee incurred expenses such as equipment, travel, conferences, publications will be subject to company’s agreement. At the end of the project, candidate will be conferred his post-doctorate status.
