Register Your Interest: Sustainable Food Programme

03 February 2022

Introduction

The global food system is an intricate, multifaceted network comprising numerous service providers and activities involved in the production, aggregation, processing, distribution, consumption, and disposal of food products originating from agriculture, forestry, or fisheries. Further divided into various sub-systems (e.g. farming system, waste management system, etc.), the global food system interacts with other critical systems (e.g. energy system, trade system, healthy system, etc.) while being part of the larger economic, societal and natural environments. Because of its largely fragmented and interconnected nature, any minor trigger could potentially have a profound effect on the entire global food system.

sustainable food system calls for careful planning, taking into consideration of the social, political, economic, and environmental factors such as population growth, urbanisation, consumption patterns, climate change and the depletion of natural resources to deliver food security and nutrition in a way that future generations and environmental sustainability are not compromised.[1]

The TUM Asia’s Sustainable Food programme aims to nurture more experts in these areas by providing advanced scientific knowledge in Food Technology, Food Safety and Food Science to bridge the connection between fundamental knowledge and sustainable industrial applications and address the research and practice gaps across the industries.
