Monday, 2 November 2020 – Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia announces the launch of its free alumni credits to boost the skills and competencies of its alumni in technology-related skills, enabling them to ahead of the evolving landscape. Awarded a one-time course credit worth S$1,500 to all alumni of TUM and TUM Asia regardless of nationality, the TUM Asia Alumni Course Credit can be used to offset up to 50% of the course fees of a curated suite of executive education courses aimed to address new and emerging needs of the economy.
With an increasing number of workplaces focusing on well-rounded individuals with learned disciplines spanning across a diverse array of fields, TUM Asia is equipping its alumni with skills and capabilities beyond their own profession and connecting them to a diverse range of short courses. The advent of the Age of Disruption and the paradigm shift to the fourth Industrial Revolution has galvanised many organisations to embark on a digital transformation journey to stay at the forefront of technology and innovation. This has also sparked the need for a comprehensive ecosystem covering excellent industry connections, high-quality academic programmes, and industry-driven skills training to equip its executives with new and current skills to match the current landscape.
To bridge the workforce skills gap, TUM Asia launched a series of executive education courses designed to provide high-quality learning experiences that equip today’s executives with necessary skills to navigate the digital age. Structured to fit around the work commitments, and business nature, these executive education courses are conducted in modular formats by industry veterans and German professors with a small teacher to student ratio, to address organisational challenges, critical needs and problems.
To encourage transdisciplinary learning, alumni credits can be used on unlimited number of executive education courses by TUM Asia, subject to available capacity. Courses that are currently open for enrolment include: Professional Certificate in Railway Engineering, Professional Certificate in Transport, Smart Sensors & IO-Link for Industry 4.0 Workshop, and Professional Certificate in Lean Management & Industry 4.0 Workshop.
“We see the need to hone a new generation of dynamic individuals who are able to straddle multiple fields and unite vastly different domains, providing solutions and ideas from different disciplines to address today’s challenges. This new initiative will encourage our TUM’s graduates to diversify and advance their knowledge. By providing opportunities to gain the much-needed ground, our graduates will be well poised to address challenges and stay ahead of the volatile and complex environment. This would infinitely present a profound benefit to the future trajectory in their career landscape,” said Dr. Markus Waechter, Managing Director of TUM Asia.
Against the backdrop of evolving working landscape fuelled by the acceleration of the use of digital technologies, the course credits come at an opportune time for graduates to boost their employability skills in the tight job market.

About TUM Asia
As the first German academic venture abroad, Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia opened its doors in Singapore in 2002. German in its roots and Asian in its approach, TUM Asia combines an emphasis on industry readiness and innovation with a distinct dedication to be relevant to Asia and its development. TUM Asia has seen over a thousand global graduates come through its Master programmes, including graduates from Asia and Europe.
TUM Asia currently offers five Master of Science programmes. The Industrial Chemistry, Integrated Circuit Design and Green Electronics programmes are jointly offered with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) or National University of Singapore (NUS). The Aerospace Engineering and Rail, Transport and Logistics programme is offered exclusively by TUM Asia. Our international faculty hail from Germany and more, and their wealth of knowledge from various fields provide a spectrum of experience for the students to glean from.
Recognising the demand for engineering excellence in Singapore, TUM Asia set up TUMCREATE in June 2010 to propagate research programmes, where scientists and researchers from both Germany and Singapore can work together for the advancement of science and technology. In 2010, TUM Asia also partnered Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to offer Bachelor of Science programmes to meet the needs of students in the local industry. 10 years after this partnership, TUM Asia and SIT further developed their partnership by launching joint undergraduate degrees focused on industry readiness for the digital future.
