BIOGRAPHY

Dr.-Ing. Ali Bawono, PMP, is an esteemed civil engineering and sustainable urban transport and infrastructure specialist with a doctoral degree and 12 years of experience. With practical expertise in project and program management, technical and policy analysis, business models, and capacity building, Dr. Ali possesses a well-rounded skill set. He excels in fostering effective stakeholder communication, driving cross-functional teams, and aligning individuals from diverse backgrounds toward shared objectives. As a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), he brings a strong foundation in project management principles and practices to his work.

Dr. Ali’s exceptional qualifications underscore his dedication to academic excellence. He holds a Ph.D. in Material Science from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, a Dr.-Ing. in Civil Engineering from Technische Universität München (TUM) in Germany, an M.Sc. in Transportation System from TUM, and a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) in Indonesia. He holds patent and Technology Disclosures.

Dr. Ali joined TUM Asia in 2021. Beforehand, he was working as a Research Fellow in TUMCREATE, contributing to projects including The Ultimate Public Transport System, Electromobility in Megacities, and the innovation of Precast Modular using Bendable Concrete for road infrastructure. Prior to his research work, Ali joined one of the biggest construction companies in Indonesia, PT. Jaya Konstruksi Tbk, as a Chief Engineer for the toll highway construction project. He was also working on policies and design guidelines for urban transport infrastructure at the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
