Finding Accommodation in Singapore

TUM Asia does not provide on-campus accommodation for international students. Housing arrangements therefore differ depending on whether you are enrolled in a joint programme or a TUM-only programme.

Joint Programme Students
Students enrolled in the following joint programmes may have the opportunity to ballot for on-campus housing at the respective partner universities:

    • NTU – MSc in Integrated Circuit Design, MSc in Green Electronics

    • NUS – MSc in Industrial Chemistry

Hostel applications are managed directly by the partner universities, and availability is limited. As such, accommodation is not guaranteed, even for eligible students.

TUM-only Programme Students
Students enrolled in programmes offered solely by TUM Asia do not have access to NTU or NUS student housing and will need to arrange private accommodation independently.

Once you have accepted your offer to join TUM Asia, we will provide a list of suggested hostels and accommodation options to help you begin your search. These are independently operated residences and are not affiliated with TUM Asia, so students will need to contact the providers and make their own arrangements directly.

Many international students prefer private accommodation as it offers greater flexibility in terms of location, budget, and living preferences. As affordable and conveniently located housing in Singapore can be in high demand, we strongly recommend securing your accommodation as early as possible.

Tips for Choosing the Right Accommodation:

Consider the total cost, including rental fees, deposits, and any administrative charges or agent fees.
Make sure your accommodation is conveniently located with access to public transport, grocery shops, dining options, and essential services such as banks.
Leases typically run for a year, with landlords often requiring up to three months’ rent as a deposit. Short-term leases are available but usually come with higher costs.
The price of housing can vary based on location, type of property, size, furnishings, and amenities such as recreational facilities. Housing closer to the city is generally more expensive.
Finally, remember that any rental agreement is strictly between you and the property owner or hostel management. Take the time to review your contract carefully before making a commitment!
