Determination, curiosity and consistent effort have taken Bou Ziab Daniel from a childhood fascination with flight to a career helping make aviation safer.\nDaniel graduates with a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from TUM Asia and has been named the programme\u2019s Best Student in recognition of his outstanding academic performance.

\nNow a Safety Engineer at an aviation startup in Munich, he is applying the knowledge and experience gained across Singapore and Germany to support the development of next-generation aircraft technologies.\n\n<\/i><\/h5>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Finding His Purpose in Aerospace Safety<\/strong><\/p>

Daniel began the programme with a passion for aviation, but one module helped define the direction of his career.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t

\u201cThe Safety and Certification of Avionics course made me realise that aerospace engineering isn\u2019t only about making aircraft perform better\u2014it\u2019s about ensuring they operate safely. That was when I knew system safety was the direction I wanted to pursue.\u201d<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Beyond gaining technical knowledge, Daniel valued TUM Asia\u2019s approach to teaching. Professors encouraged discussion, challenged students to think critically and guided them through complex engineering problems instead of simply delivering lectures.<\/p>

Studying alongside classmates from diverse backgrounds in Singapore also broadened his perspective and prepared him to work in an international engineering environment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Succeeding Through Consistency<\/strong><\/p>

Like many students entering a rigorous engineering programme, Daniel initially found the academic intensity challenging.<\/p>

\u201cThe workload was demanding, and I quickly realised aerospace engineering isn\u2019t something you can leave until the last minute.\u201d<\/p>

Rather than relying on last-minute revision, he developed consistent study habits. He kept pace with the curriculum, asked questions when concepts were unclear and focused on truly understanding each subject instead of memorising content for examinations.<\/p>

Over time, this disciplined approach made difficult concepts more manageable and laid the foundation for his academic success.<\/p>

“I was genuinely very happy. My main focus was always doing my best and understanding each subject through my studies. Receiving the award felt rewarding because it reflected the effort and consistency I had put in throughout the programme.\u201d<\/p>

For Daniel, the Best Student Award also carried a deeper meaning.<\/p>

\u201cMore than anything, the award gave me confidence and reminded me that steady effort, even when progress feels slow, can eventually lead to something meaningful.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Applying Knowledge in Germany<\/strong><\/p>

Daniel\u2019s learning extended beyond the classroom when he completed both his internship and master\u2019s thesis at Professor Holzapfel\u2019s Institute of Flight Dynamics at the Technical University of Munich.<\/p>

During his internship, he worked on Systems Engineering. His research subsequently explored how Large Language Models could support Functional Hazard Assessment in aerospace systems.<\/p>

Working on real-world engineering challenges deepened his understanding of aviation safety and showed him how classroom theories could be translated into practical applications.<\/p>

Today, Daniel brings that experience to his role as a Safety Engineer at an aviation startup in Munich. He credits TUM Asia with strengthening his analytical thinking, systems perspective and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams\u2014skills that continue to support him in his career.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A Success Shared with Others<\/strong><\/p>

Although Daniel\u2019s name is engraved on the Best Student Award, he sees the achievement as a reflection of the support he received along the way.<\/p>

\u201cI am very grateful to my professors, classmates, friends and family, who supported me along the way.\u201d<\/p>

Studying abroad while navigating an intensive master\u2019s programme was not always easy. During challenging periods, his family and friends encouraged him, listened to him and reminded him to keep moving forward.<\/p>

When Daniel shared the news of his award, they celebrated the achievement together.<\/p>

\u201cThey were extremely happy and proud. Their reaction made the moment even more special because they had seen the effort behind it. In many ways, the award felt like something we could celebrate together, not just an individual achievement.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
