At the interface between mathematical modelling and applied railway engineering his work covers topics in network and traffic planning, capacity management, as well as railway dispatching. A special emphasis is on understanding the interplay between supply structure and quality, as well as on harmonizing competing interests from asset management and railway operations.<\/p><p>Prof. Weik studied mathematics and physics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. From 2014 to 2019 he worked as a research associate at RWTH Aachen University, where he was awarded a PhD for his research on railway capacity under infrastructure failures. He then joined the DLR &#8211; Institute of Transportation Systems in Brunswick, where he worked as a researcher at the interface between railway system management and operation.
