Yet, this was not a fulfilling means to a goal, as there could more specialised knowledge to be tapped.<\/h5>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7222d3c5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7222d3c5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In my final year of my bachelor\u2019s, it came to me that perhaps electrical engineering may not have been my cup of tea. Upon looking for interesting engineering-related courses, I found an interesting course, Rail, Transport and Logistics (RTL) under TUM,\u201d shared Xiang Yan.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cI find it interesting because it not only covers rail, but also provides additional content on transportation and logistics. It\u2019s rather refreshing since most master\u2019s degrees specialize in a specific domain. But I see the benefit and importance in acquiring knowledge from different fields, especially in rail and transportation, which is multi-faceted and interrelated,\u201d explained Xiang Yan.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-49faaae5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"49faaae5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"445\" src=\"https:\/\/tum-asia.edu.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/RTL-Picture-1024x768-2.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-34369\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tum-asia.edu.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/RTL-Picture-1024x768-2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/tum-asia.edu.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/RTL-Picture-1024x768-2-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tum-asia.edu.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/RTL-Picture-1024x768-2-732x407.jpg 732w, https:\/\/tum-asia.edu.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/RTL-Picture-1024x768-2-768x427.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1b6616b9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1b6616b9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u201cRail and transportation are especially relevant in Singapore, as it is the critical network that transports our people around the country. Singapore\u2019s transport system is continuously developing with the expansion of the numerous MRT lines and extensive road networks. The engineering difficulty and considerations required to develop such an extensive transportation network in the limited land area, while responding to the needs of various stakeholders, is incredibly challenging,\u201d Xiang Yan continued. It was not all sunshine and rainbows, even for Xiang Yan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The lack of knowledge from civil and mechanical engineering proved to be a hurdle when taking on classes in railway engineering and his final semester master\u2019s thesis. \u201cI had some difficulty understanding the concepts from the courses and found acoustic simulation difficult during my thesis. It definitely required some reading to catch up on the content,\u201d Xiang Yan confided.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yet, Xiang Yan still managed to complete his thesis successfully, where he eventually attained the Best Thesis Award in his cohort, was a point in case the determination streak in him to do his best despite the limitations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>His performance and efforts would have been in vain without the support of his classmates from TUM. International students from all over the world were able to study hard and play hard together.
