Benefits of a short course

Whether you are a full-time working professional, or a fresh grad who has some free time, it is never too late to learn something new. Besides picking up new skills, students can also learn about a subject that they are interested in, be it theoretical wise, or to expand their existing general knowledge.

Regardless of your background or circumstances, there are many advantages to learning something new in a short course.

  1. Career Enhancer
Short courses are a great way to expand your knowledge and give your career a further boost. They can also give you a competitive edge when it comes to a career switch or a job promotion. As the world moves towards a digitalised world, existing programmes and practices change and it is extremely important for professionals to refresh their skills and stay up-to-date with the industry.
  2. Practical yet simple
A great benefit of a short course is that they are practical, requires a small level of commitment, and they are convenient. The course can be completed through campus learning or distance learning. As they tend to be short in duration, you can benefit from learning something new in a short time frame, while incurring little costs. This would be important to working professionals, as little to no income would be lost while studying part-time.
  3. Pursue a new interest
If you have always wanted to explore a new interest, but have not set your mind to doing it yet, a short course is a great way to try it out and figure out if this is what you are keen to explore further in the long run.
  4. Explore a new career path
A short course allows you to explore and gain some skills before you pursue a full-time programme or career change in that path. At the same time, you are also able to start your learning progress and have a headstart in engaging in these subjects.
  5. Network and make new friends
Through a short course, you can meet many students who share the same interest in this course as yourself. You will have the opportunity to make new friends on a personal and industry level. It is a great way to expand your circle of contacts, and these relationships may become beneficial to you later on.

The benefits of engaging in continuous learning are tremendous, and here at Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia, we always encourage our students to keep pursuing their interests and keep challenging the boundaries. We believe that they should never stop learning to keep upgrading themselves and aspire for greater things.

If you are planning to take up a short course, why not consider the Executive Education courses with TUM Asia? There is up to 90% of SkillsFuture funding available for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. You are also able to use your SkillsFuture credits to offset the remaining fees.
