What are some of the scholarships available for successful applicants to Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia?

Struggling to submit an application? Have a burning question pertaining to scholarships? Fret not, we are here to help! Here is some information on the available scholarships that current applicants have often asked the TUM Asia’s Admission Office.

All applicants whose applications were successful will be assessed for available TUM Asia scholarships. You do not have to apply separately for them. You will be notified via email only if you have been awarded a scholarship.

However, please keep in mind that our programmes are primarily self-financing programmes. We do offer scholarships (mainly TUM Asia scholarships and DAAD scholarships) to offer some form of support for our students but these scholarships are very limited in numbers and are usually only given to very outstanding students. TUM Asia scholarships are given out at the point of admission, while DAAD scholarships are given out only after you enrol with us. For TUM Asia scholarships, there is no separate application process. You will be assessed for available TUM Asia scholarships if you can be admitted to the programme.

The scholarships generally support only a portion of your studies and may not cover all your expenses. You must obtain sufficient funds, e.g. scholarships from your government, education loans from your home country, separately to support yourself independently.

We understand that studying with us is a financially huge commitment. However, the scholarships that we offer are limited and merit-based. Moreover, the scholarships that we are offering are mostly partial scholarships. Even if you manage to get one, you will still have to be mentally prepared that you will have to bear a part of the tuition fees yourself. As such, you should also find out from your government, for example, if they are offering any scholarship or financial aid that you may be eligible for, or find other sources of financial aid to support your studies.

Nevertheless, if you are not awarded a TUM Asia scholarship at the point of admission, do not be too disheartened. We do have TUM Asia – DAAD scholarships which are given out every semester when you study with us. A student can be awarded a maximum of EUR 5,000 per semester. Students who have received a TUM Asia scholarship at the point of admission are still eligible to apply for the TUM Asia – DAAD scholarship after each semester.

Additional question posed by many of our current applicants:

Are interviews conducted for all applicants who are shortlisted?

Students sometimes write to us with the concern that their friends who had applied to TUM Asia were called up for interviews, while they did not receive any interview notification. Nonetheless, please note that there is no need to worry if you have not been called up for any interview. Not all of our MSc programmes require an interview for admission into the programme. Also, we only conduct interviews for selected applicants in programmes that may require an interview. That means it is possible to be admitted into our MSc programmes without passing through the interview stage.
