Networking with Prospective Employees: TUM Asia’s Annual Career and Internship Fair

More than twenty prospective employers attended TUM Asia’s annual Career and Internship fair on March 12, 2014. This is the second year that TUM Asia is conducting this fair. Companies with specialities – ranging from semiconductor to logistics – interacted with students via presentations and company booths, with some even conducting on-the-spot interviews. The fair provided a platform for TUM graduates and students to meet potential employers, who were eager to offer internships and permanent job positions.

Booths were set up in a circular fashion that allowed the students to move in an orderly manner. The short presentations conducted by the companies provided insights into the routine work and gave a glimpse of their current projects. Interested students took the opportunity to actively ask questions to enquire more information. Students were also provided with detailed information on career options with the companies.

Since the inception of the fair in 2013, companies have provided excellent feedback on the fair. Mr Sebastian Foo from ASM Technology Pacific, the world’s largest assembly and packaging equipment supplier for the semiconductor and LED industries, had great praise for the TUM graduates whom ASM hired. “We were very pleased with the students we hired last year and we are back this year to look for new hires. In the long run, we are looking to build a manpower pipeline with TUM Asia.”

Through this networking event, the students established direct contacts to representatives of the different companies. In all, both the prospective employers and employees were satisfied with the fair. “It was our first time participating in this fair and I must commend the students for being well-prepared. They took the initiative to speak with the companies,” agreed Ms Fanny Hong from Wincor Nixdorf.
