BIOGRAPHY

Prof. Hintermann studied chemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. He obtained his doctorate at the university’s Laboratory for Inorganic Chemistry (2000). Following a period as a JSPS fellow at Tokyo Institute of Technology (2001/2), he moved to RWTH Aachen. There, he headed up an Emmy Noether junior research group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) (lecturer qualification in 2008). In fall 2009, he was appointed associate professor at TUM.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

The research of Prof. Hintermann (b. 1972) focuses on the development of highly active and selective catalysts for organic synthesis. Such catalysts can be used both in basic molecular research and in industrial production. The aim is to achieve sustainable and efficient chemical synthesis to provide new materials using minimal of resources.
