Dr. T. G. Pai started his teaching and research career in 1969 at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. During 1973 – 75 he worked in Aircraft Design Bureau of HAL Bangalore. He was as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow during 1975 -77 at German Aerospace Center (DFVLR), Köln Porz working in the area of Transonic Flows. In 1978 he joined Indian Institute of Technology Bombay pursuing his teaching and research activities. During 1978 -86 his work at IIT Bombay in the areas of Supersonic Air Intake Flows and Air Cushion Vehicle was supported by Aeronautics R&D Board, New Delhi. He then joined design team of Indian Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and worked till 2003 at Aeronautical Development Agency Bangalore, in the areas of Aerodynamic Design, Wind Tunnel Testing, CFD, Flight Testing, Aircraft Technology Development and R&D management. He has extensively used wind tunnel facility in India (NAL, IISc and HAL) and abroad (USA, France and Russia) for generation of whole range of aerodynamic design data. In recognition of his R& D contributions and technical leadership, he was honoured in 2001 with the title of Out Standing Scientist by Government of India and also in 2003 as Distinguished Alumnus of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. Recently he initiated work in the area of aerodynamic testing & modeling for departure & high alpha manoeuvres at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He visited DLR Göttingen in summer 2005 as Humboldt Fellow. Over two decades period (1986 – 2008) Dr Pai served as a member of many professional, scientific and policy making bodies in India. He also chaired several National and International Conference Sessions and delivered a number of Invited Lectures in India and abroad.
